Ok, so after cleaning up & removing the old 'goo' from my replacement quarter window, I figure I'll just pop into the local part store(s) and pickup the gasket/rubber/goo.

Right.

The first store, I got a response that was somewhere between a blank stare and a shrug.

Pep-clue-less-boys referred me to 'weatherstriping' Which would work great if I was .... say sealing the front door of my house.

I'm going to try a auto glass replacement shop this weekend, but I figure I will have to hold my wallet & pants up to not have a 'bad experience' Any suggestions on where I can get this stuff (and what do I call it) ?
I believe the "goo" is butyl rubber. Any glass shop or body / paint supply shop should be able to hook you up.
I agree with Jeff!

Here's the poop you need;

Try a auto glass shop , stuff they install a windshield with , that will seal it up . about 10-20 bucks a tube , DW
(sigh) and I thought I had done a complete search that would have pulled this info up from the archives.... As a bonus, I have windows to do in my boat, so the extra material will have an immediate (and much needed use !)

Thanks much, now if only replacing all of the rubber isolators on the suspension would be so easy.... but that is yet another post for the future.

Oh no you don't. No way can you cheap out! You must use the exact same stuff but get the container that has "Marine Use" on it at 3 times the price. Big Grin
Jeff's correct, butyl rubber. Any automotive paint store will carry it. I comes in 1/4",3/8" and 1/2" diameter. Usually, $10-$12 a roll. For the quarter windows, you need 1/4", just a coincidence. Do not use the windshield urethane that comes in a tube. If your quarter window ever needed to be replaced again, you would literally have to grind it out.
(sigh)

NAPA 4179 is a discontinued product. The guy(kid) at the counter was able to discern that there is no replacement with his arms folded, then placed into his pants pocket. Got to love the abilities of the younger generation to interface with computers *and* catalogs without physical interaction....

Safelite Auto Glass - butyl, heck they haven't made that in 10 years.... Mind you, it appears that 10 years ago... they guy was still in 11th grade....

Now I have to wait until Monday, at the earliest to beat my head against the wall trying to find paint suppliers that (might) have the tape.

Edit - RV World. Many rolls available.

If I had $5 for every time (inflation people) I spend the DAY looking for something obvious....
I grabbed the roll out of my shop. It is 3M Windo-Weld Ribbon Sealer, part # 08610. 1/4in X 15 ft.
