My speedometer was sticky when I got the car about a month ago, I've driven it about 1500 miles, and now the speedo sits below 0 when stopped and twitches. If you put and electrical load on the system, it will fluctuate more. It is also inacurate at any speed. any ideas, or experiences would be helpful,
Thanks

Sometime an erratic speedo is tell tale of charging problems. Had any other signs of inadequate charging?

I don't notice any, and I never get a gen light or anything (if there is one). My other gauges have problems (fuel and oil pressure, not sure if the amp gauge works either.)

You may have 2 seperate problems but cure may be fairly simple. first suggestion would be to remove the instrument cluster and inspect the wiring connectors to see if they are fully seated and locked in. If your fuel and oil guages are acting erratic you probably have an IVR (instument voltage regulator) concern which is very common. From Ford IVR part # is D1AZ-10804-A list $34.13. From a local parts store the "Standard" brand part # is VRC-606 list $36.80. Though I have never seen it this could be the route cause of your speedo problem also. Your speedo is electronic and the IVR conrols the voltage for the entire cluster. If you still have a speedo problem after the IVR, next likely source would be the vehicle speed sensor mounted on the left rear side of the trans. If the VSS wiring is clean, dry and tight remove the sensor, inspect the drive gear for wear if looks ok sensor probably NG hope this helps Rick B.

Having spent a lot of time correcting mistakes resulting from my (so-far unsucessful) solid state IVR experiments, I'm pretty sure that the IVR does NOT supply voltage for the speedometer. The IVR supplies voltage for the fuel, oil, and temp gauges, and the fuel relay for the system sentry. The amp gauge is also a separate circuit, at least on the 1986.

So, if it is not a bad connection at the back of the instrument panel, an overall car-wide electrical problem, or a short in the flexible circuit board, I agree that it is probably two separate problems.
