Full Version: Close the wastegate?

I was looking at the post of Reeves car and it writes:

extra spring on WG to hold it shut $1

Why would you close the wastegate? Did he do this to eliminate it, and substitute it for a blow-off valve and boost controller (w/ high boost)? Just wondering?

I'm going to assume that he did that so the wastegate doesn't open till a higher boost level than stock.

I guess he is putting more holding pressure to keep the waste gate shut and build/hold boost.
This is known as "running around on the waste gate" by turbo engineers.

The exhaust has to get out somewhere though as rpm increases, so usually a bigger turbine is recommended.
