ok now i was looking at bob long's headers and i was wondering exactly what does the EGR do do i need it on my 88 TC

even after reading that article it doesn't tell what would happen if you were to remove the egr system. sounds like all that would happen is your exhaust might be a little dirtier. I removed my egr system and didn't notice any changes in the way it ran/consumed fuel. however, not every car is the same. just my .02$
And it can decreas your gas milage a bit, too. Also can increase combustion temps.

It could cause you to fail emissions tests if you have the testing in you area. He does offer his log header with an egr bung welded on it. If you want to see what the result of running without the egr would be you can just pull(and plug) the vac line from the valve.
