Guys,

In the town my job is in, I have seen a over a dozen of 1980's XR7's. How can I tell if they are Turbo Cougars ???

Also lots of Aero T-bird LX's and a couple of TC's too.....and this is a small town...
And I thought I was the only one noticing an odd abundancy of turbocoupes lately. In my relatively small town of beachwood, there is a total of 5 (yes, five) turbocoupes within a 2 minute drive of my house. I guess I must have started a trend
Dan- You can tell they aren't turbos because they are 80's. they only did the turbo in the XR7 from 84-86. I've thought about building a turbo 80 XR7 (like the 80 Fairmont turbo) because I am a sick and demented bastard, but some other things have come up recently... [Image: smile.gif]

Dan mostly the easiest way to tell is by the Fog Lights most stock cougars and TC didn't have fog lights but the TC's did have them. I think maybe for few special editions they had them but it was mostly just on the TC's

you didn't tell us you were working again. Unless I fell asleep and missed that. Is this hurting your regimen of polishing? [Image: biggrin.gif]

Don't the 84 turbo cougars have "turbo" emblems where the 5.0 emblems go, right between the front wheel and the door?

As for the 85/86, wouldn't they have the 10-hole rims?

Did you mean 1980 or the whole 80's decade?
Ok, let me catch up w/ the rest of the class. If you are refering to just the 84-86 XR7's, all 84-86 XR7's were turbo. The 84's did not have fog lights and could look almost like a nonXR7. Some even came w/ wire wheels covers! The badging was an XR7 in place of the "cat head" logo and the "EFI turbo" badges on the fenders and an XR7 on the trunk lid. The 85-86's were pretty much identical to each other with the exception of the third brake light on the 86. Both had the fog lights and the 15" 10-holes. Also on the XR7's the automatic was the STD tranny w/ the t-5 being optional..which is backwards from the TBirds.

So, if it has an XR7 on it, it is ALWAYS a Turbo Cougar (84-86)? Right ?

But 1980-83 it could say XR7 and not be a turbo ?

Dan, I don't think there was an '80-83 XR7. If so, it's definately not a turbo car. The '87-88 XR7s are also not turbo cars, they are the ones with the monochromatic treatment and turbine wheels

Dan- There was an 80-82 XR7 that was based on the same platform as the TBird of the time. The other Cougars were on the smaller Granada platform. There was no 83 XR7. The XR7 nameplate came back in 84. Yes all 84-86 XR7's are turbo (all 18,000 of them).
