I often forget to run the stupid codes...

Just ran them.

KOEO - Code 81 ????

KOER - Codes 21,25,34,74

Code 21 - ECT out of range !!! Uh Huh !

Code 25 - KS test not performed

Code 34 - EGR - I always get this.

Code 74 - Brake On/Off test not performed.

Change the ECT (21) first and see if the 81 goes away. Don't worry about 25, 34, & 74

Didn't you say in one of your last posts on the Emissions subject that you unplugged the ISC?

i am at work and can't remember all about code 81, but i wonder if that is part of the problem. During the EEC test, the EEC commands the ISC thru a few duty cycles, which would change the RPM if the ISC was functioning.

Since yours is unhooked, your RPM wouldn't have changed and i wonder if that is the problem.

Also, how long did you warm the engine before you ran the codes? i know Ford says 2 minutes, but i've never seen a Ford (with the EEC-IV) that warms up enough in 2 minutes, after sitting for a day, to not trigger the code 21. Just my experience.

I plugged the IAC back in for the test.

I'll try it again after an extended warm up... Maybe the case...
Well i looked thru my Ford book and it appears that code 81 can only exist in the KOEO form for the TC.

After i noticed the KOEO in your message (didn't at first), i started to think i could have been wrong on the ISC issue. Damn.

Code 81 on the TC appears to be the boost circuit (boost solenoid, boost solenoid circuit, or a slim chance of the EEC having a failure).

Dan, you have your BCS electrically disconnected, right? If so, that is the cause of the code 81. If you are anal about getting a 1-1 pass code on all the tests like I am, you can just get a 100 ohm 1 Watt resistor and put it across the BCS electrical connector for the BCS to fool the EEC into thinking the BCS is still connected. I have done this, and it gets rid of the code.

A bad ECT might also explain the funky way your idle works with the IAB connected... the EEC might be thinking the motor is cold all / most of the time, and increasing idle speed. If it is telling the EEC the motor is cold, it will be running open loop and rich, thus your high HC reading at the smog test.

Yeah...Duhhh. I realized the Code 81 was from having my BCS unplugged after JT e-mailed me the diagnostics pages....

I did re-run the KOER test after it was warmed up and did not get the Code 21.

However I ran the KOEO Sensor and Relay test (after the regular KOEO test) and pulled a Code 41 - EGO not switching System Lean. Funny part about this is I thought that would be a KOER or Continuous Memory Test Code. This is after Battery was disconnected for around one hour.

I am going to change the O2 Sensor and ECT just for the hell of it.
