Yah my turbos been only putting out about 5 psi of boost the past couple months, its hit 10 a couple times since then but not much? Im thinking the turbos going, but i dont have that much knowledge in turbos. its stoke with 126,000 miles on it. Im thinking about getting it upgraded but i have no clue where to bring it, any thaught. Whats a t3-t4 turbo run for, i have a $1000 bucks to play with. is there anyway to upgrade the stoke IHI turbo to put out more boost.

I have a 87 TC with 130,000 miles so far all ive done is drop it 1 1/4 in in front and 1 in in rear, and put in a system.
Does it actually feel (seat of the pantsometer) like you are getting less boost?
Or are you just going by what the gauge says?
Take the inlet tube off the compressor housing and look inside. Gently move the turbine shaft back and forth and side to side. How much movement, should be almost none? Turn the wheel, it should move freely. Turn the wheel while moving the shaft back and forth and side to side. Does the wheel hit the housing anywhere? If so the turbo is shot. If the wheel spins easily - this does not mean it will keep spinning for 15 seconds, it normally stops very quickly, just that it should spin with very little effort, and the wheel doesn't touch the housing, it's probably OK.

Check this out and answer the question about seat of the pants vs the gauge reading and we will go from there.

There isn't any sense in upgrading the IHI, even if there are upgrades. If you need a new turbo you should probably upgrade to t T3 or T3/T4 hybrid. You should be able to do that for less than a $1000. You might want to consider doing the mods suggested in the article "Beginners Mods for HP" in the Technical Article before you upgrade or at least in conjunction with the upgrade, if you want to get the most out of it or your current turbo.

Is your car blowing through lots of oil? My turbo went in May, and I was going through about 2 quarts of oil every 3 days. If you are expierencing lots of oil loss, but don't see any drips or puddles, its probably the turbo. Also, right before mine went, it was pulling 10-15 psi, or at least thats what the gauage was reading, then it died. Turbochargers.com can supposadley rebuild a IHI turbo for $275, but they told me it wasn't worth it. A complete rebuild costs 675-725.
Or you could take your chances and buy one from the "for sale" board for under $75.
