today i stummbled on a 85 tc. it was setting in a corner of a subaru lot.. only 52000 miles. ran good and smooth but i can defenitly tellt he difference in a 190hp and a 150 because this one was an automatic.. still ran good tho.. prolly put away some of those shined up rice burners
I'm sorry but a Honda Civic IS a ricer, as is a Prelude, etc., etc. HOWEVER(!), a Subaru Impreza is a fine machine. Take one for a test drive, you might be trading in your TC... If I had the money, thats what I'd buy(or Lincoln LS). Besides, a Subaru stock will beat the best running of stock TC's

88 bone stock TC with 138k, 5spd, burgundy, almost all options. Soon to have a pillar boost guage along with new tires, zinc plated rotors and a custom paint job
costs a lot more to.........

------------------
88 turbo coupe, black 5-speed all options but leather, K&N cone, 3 in. downpipe, no converter into 2.5 in. one chambered flowmasters, 86' GT stainless tips, gillis boost contoller, 3.73s, 16x8 (knightrider) rims, 2 JL audio 15s in trunk, punch 800
Yea you could buy about 900 TC's for the cost of a wrx
What was list cost on a TC when they were first released? Whats the rate of inflation since then? Whats the list price of a brand spanking new WRX? I'm sure if you figure in inflation, they'd cost about the same new...

I own a Prelude and I hardly think it's a ricer. I've owned three T-birds and after them bought it new. I don't know about the Civic, but I don't think a stock Prelude is a ricer.
Sam, I'm positively ecstatic about my car. I love everything(but the wiring) about it. Although, I think some people aren't open enough about their opinions. Just because a car is Japanese doesn't make it a ricer. My definition of a ricer is a cheaper car wearing useless "high performance"(stickers, HUGE wings, ground effects) parts to make it look and sound faster. However, even though the Civic is the ricer "posterchild" I think a Civic with tastefully done body work, turbo, and other real high performance parts. I also don't list subaru's(any), Nissan Skylines, Nissan 300ZX's, Mazda RX-7's, Toyota Supra's, as ricers no matter how ugly. Why? Simply put, they're FAST. They are also well engineered cars with the only drawbacks being the fact that I can't buy a Skyline in the US for under 80g(35g in Japan for the same car), and the RX-7 have a shorter engine life because of the rotary design.

Still would give anything for a nice Viper, Cobra or Vette

A Subaru stock will beat a T/C????Which Subaru are you talking about????Becauae the last WRX I went up against got a RUDE awakening the last time I ran one of the guys at work who has one who drives at least as well as I do,and my T/C is almost bone stock except for the K&N and the IHI turned up alittle, hell I even have stock exhaust!WRX's are nice cars, don't get me wrong, but with $3000 in parts on a T/C that WRX doesn't stand a chance and as for a stock Vette,it'll be all he's got to keep up,and that's without taking the bottom end apart.Just my$.02,later.

Too much fun, what's that mean? That's like too much boost, there's no such thing.
I watched my friends bone stock '01 Vette with an auto trans run 13.45.
I beleive Motor Trend tested the WRX to run 14.1.
The Civic Si is supposed to run 15.8's stock according to the magazines. The best I've seen from a stock one is 16.3's.

This is kind of a silly discussion where one guy says one car is better and the other says something else.

The bottom line is that now, in 2001, a guy can buy a used turbo coupe, and for his total investment of $3000, can run as fast or faster than most of the new cars out there, and have a great low budget, reliable sleeper.
Don't get me wrong, I'd trade my '83 for a new WRX, or Corvette all day long, but there aren't too many guys willing to make that trade, so until then, I'll keep having fun with what I'm driving. [Image: smile.gif]
I'm by no means giving anyone in this discussion any crap, just voicing my opinion.
