I went out this morning to see if I could figure out why the steering seemed so squarely on the drive back on the TC I just bought. It looks like I've got a lot of play in the wheel bearing on the passengers side. I want to to place it, but I need to know the best places to put a real jack to lift it and place it on jack stands while I work. Without a real frame, I don't see too many places except around the lower control arm mounts. Can somebody give me some pointers on this?
I always jack it up from the front under the crossmember. that way you can jack both sides at the same time. If you are replacing the passenger's side wheel bearings, do the drivers side too. They are pretty cheap and easy to do.
I use the sub frames, but I'm using a hydraulic floor jack and I use a 5" piece of 2 x 4" wood as a the contact. I jack far enough back the I can set a jack stand in front of the floor jack and lower it gently down on the sub frame. I agree, relace them all.
I just did my front wheel bearings the other day. I jacked it up from the kmember. The passenger side was shot, well with 250k miles its to be expected!
I always use a floor jack as Pete said. I also use a piece of 2x4 to prevent damage to the frame rails. I always do both sides ant the same time as this will promote even wear on the tires and spindles. Good Luck and glad to see you got her back sans problems.
