Full Version: How do I know which turbo will work?

I have an 88 T-bird that I want to swap to a T3. On E-bay, I see numerous T3's and T3/T4's for sale.

How do I know which will work? I know I'll have to elongate a few holes and do a little work for the oil and water lines and I don't mind. I just don't want to get a turbo that's going to be a pain in the butt to mount.

Will any of the Honds B3's turbo's work?

Just trying to save myself some stress later on.

Whoa!!!!!!!

Just to save you the trouble of asking- you have a Ford engine, it's a 140 cubic inch 2.3L engine. The car is built on the FOX platform, and the stock wheels are 16" diameter. Oh and the bolt pattern is 4 by 4.25" ... [Image: biggrin.gif]

Any turbo with a T3 style exhaust housing will be an easy install. The turbo-to-manifold flange will be called a T3 Flange.

Do you mean what will bolt up, or what will be the best turbo for your goals with the car. What HP levels are you looking for? Do you want fast spool at the expense of some high end power? Are you going with big valves, lots of port work, a big cam, and raise the rev limit to 8000 RPM? What are your current mods?

I didn't know if the bolt patterns on turbos were like bolt patterns on rims. Yes, I have 16" rims, but that doesn't mean the 16" rims off my truck will fit...I just wasn't sure if they were like that.

Jeff K: I was planning on going with a T3 til' I seen the prices of the T3/T4's. That has me thinking.

I don't mind losing some bottom end for the additional top end.

I have gutted the upper intake, knife edged the lower, ranger roller cam. I did a home port job on the E6 and head. And I have a Walbro 190 in the tank. Also, I just bought a larger intercooler.

I bought a virgin upper and lower intake and will be rotating the upper to help with the intercooler install (those questions will be coming soon). I'm not planning on putting bigger valves in. Hopefully, I won't be opening this motor up for a long time [Image: smile.gif]

From my research, the stock injectors can keep up with the power til' you start reaching 300-350 hp. Assuming that's correct, that's where I want to be [Image: smile.gif] I'm not planning on spinning it higher than 6500 and that's only at the strip.

Once again, after seeing the prices...and now I know that they'll all work, I'm starting to lean towards a TO4E.

Any thoughts?
