Got the car home finally and its having an issue at low RPM. Might be suffering up hich as well but i wouldn't know, im not used to this car. It also revs up painfully slow even just in neutral when there is no load on it

The po just replaced the head gasket before i picked it up and it hasen't been right since. Its painful pulling off from a dead stop and cant be in 5th on the highway.

I have checked the ignition timing. its at 12 degrees advance right now, that is where it seems best.

Cam timing looks on, its a MP cam the timing mark on the cam gear is lined up with the middle mark timing mark.

The only code i get is a 66, i believe that is a VAM code but the car has a MAF conversion so that could explain that.

Any ideas where to start?
maf conversion? so is there a standalone pcm or something of that nature? a tuner?

seems a little odd to me.
What ever the conversion is that is not the problem for sure. Ran fine like that before the gasket...

The more i think on it the more it would seem like cam timing. Has anyone ever put the cam in 180 off? I just had a buddy or mine who is a ford tec tell me that happens and it will run like that? if not maybe it is off a tooth.

I think my project for tomorrow is re-time the cam.
I agree... I bet the cam timing is off a few teeth. You can't put the cam a full 180 degrees off though. it's impossible. If you see that the cam is 180 degrees off, it just means you need to turn the crank one more full rotation to see how off the cam *really* is.
Cam timing is where I would start based on description and sequence of events you provided.
By MP cam, do you mean "Modern Performance"? If that is correct, I am wondering if the MAF conversion is also the Modern Performance conversion, WHICH DOES NOT WORK WORTH A CRAP.
Yup, the MP is modern performance, and the MAF was done at the same time.

How should i correct that? And do you think that could be the problem? it was working fine before the head gasket?

Is there a walk through on this site for cam timing?
Never trust that plastic timing mark once the head has been off. Its will not be in the correct position once the head is off.

What I did was set the timing with the "string" method and then re-aligned the plastic pointer to match the string so that I could use the plastic piece as reference in the future.
^^^^ +1! The string method works the best!

6 fingered.... see if you can figure out if the MAF is the MP conversion. As I remember, there is a "box" for the MP conversion near the MAF that has a few (2?) adjustment screws on it. THe screws tend to need constant fiddling to get it to work right.
