i read the tech article but is was very brief on the use of a rubing compound. i have a meduim fine rubbing compound from napa and the paint on the tbird could use something before a waxing. i want to use this compound but im not sure how to use it should i just use it by hand? bc i dont want to use a power tool and burn the paint. and how do i clean it off bc it seems to put a fiom on the car. (i tried it on my girlfriends car first). thanks guys

...Did you try reading the directions on the container?
Depending on how bad the paint is, I would first try a clay bar system. If that doesn't work, then the compoung you have will be needed. The problem for you is that it really cannot be applied by hand, it should be done with a polishing wheel as you need the revs to work the material into the paint to clean it up. A polisher only burns the paint if the revs are too fast. Thats why I use mine on the lowest setting & take my time.

You may want to take it and have it professionaly done if its that bad.

HERS - Blue 87 TC, fully loaded with every option, Gilies Valve, K & N Filter, 3-core Radiator, New Paint...just needs to be put back together, Interior re-done & get some exterior parts.

87 TC - Bought as a Parts Car, & will remain a parts car now that I found the blue one.
that was another option. i read that you should start with a not so abrasive material first as to not mess it up. but i think i should take it somewhere.

I did my whole car by hand with the rubbing compound. took 10 hours. a power tool will suffice but only use fine grit.
how did it turn out? how did you do it? what did you use?
