Hello Everyone. Long time reader, first time poster. Just bought an 87 Turbo. The car had been sitting for three years. We ended up blowing the head gasket on the way home... ouch. We replaced the head gasket on our own, along with water pump, pulleys, distributor, etc. Long story short, it runs well except for a few problems - the idle runs high (about 2k) and the engine runs hot (keeps creeping up and I turn it off before it gets too hot). We suspect that the problem might lie in the radiator and/or the two fans. I have no clue why it's idling so high. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

1. Pull the codes for starters: http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/Retri..._codes.htm http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/In_Ca...rCodes.htm
Let us know what you get for each of the 3 phases of the test

2. Perhaps check/set the idle/TPS http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/idlet...tment.html

1. and 2. are related to the overall system and checking for the cause of the high idle issue

3. Check the cooling fans. The primary fan (passenger side) should come on briefly each time the engine is started.
You can use this article to do some testing of the fans circuits: http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/Cooli...ingFan.htm
