Hey all,

Tomorrow, weather permitting, I will drain my tranny, pop off the shifter and undo it on top of the transmission. I will pour roughly 3-4 quarts of ATF II fluid in. Replace and take for a test drive.

I'm not mechanically inclined so I'm deathly afraid of screwing something up. Does all of this sound correct? All I'll be using is a rachet set and a screwdriver...a pair of pliers and a vise-grip if needed.

Also, does anyone know any good additives to help make the gears extra slippery. They have progressively become harder to shift into as time goes on.

P.s. For those of you who have replied to my previous questions, my apologies. I'm a newbie, my TC is my baby, and if I screw her up I've got major problems (:
I'm not sure about the exact procedure for refilling, but from what I've read you should *not* use any additives in the T5 tranny. They can attack the friction material on the synchros inside. The new fluid should help though, it sure did when I had my fluid changed. It's normal to have a hard time shifting into Reverse (there's no synchro for that gear) and it can be a rather notchy in cold weather before it warms up.

As Pete said in the previous trans post....

the capacity is about 2.6 quarts.

Filling from the shifter is fine, but you still need to check the fluid level from the top plug. Do not overfill it.

You can buy a hand pump (includes a tube) for the bottle that makes it easy to fill from the top plug hole. Pumps are usually under $10 and you can reuse them for other applications. Less trouble than removing the shifter IMO.

Removing the shifter to put in fluid is the HARDEST way to do it. Just refill it thru the fill hole in the tranny.
