Full Version: Eliminate your EGR ......Without any nasty side effects

Ok this works great, has no side effects, and it was worth it--- for me anyways. It always seemed to me that the EGR was in the way and I don't worry about e-check anyhow. Just unhooking the connector from the EGR is a No-No! This causes the computer to pull timing and a lot of funky stuff happens..Ask me how I know. LOL.

Here we go......

1.Remove your Egr valve from the pipe and your intake. Also plug your vacuum line that connects to the EGR as well.

2.Remove the 3 screws that actually hold the sensor to the EGR Valve body. They look like this

3.Take the actual sensor out and you will notice that you can push the stem in about 1"-1-1/4".
This is what sends the signal to your computer which decides if it is open or closed. It looks like this

4.Ok you can either tape wrap the stem HALF way in or do what I did and super glue it HALF way in. Push the stem HALF way in and apply superglue to the base, where the stem enters the sensor and hold it for about 30 seconds.


This is permenant this way, so many of you may want to use tape!

5.Then plug the EGR connector into the sensor, this satisfys the computers need for a signal and no timing is pulled or other funky stuff,
and lay it on the intake somewhere and you are finished......Unless you are like me and want a clean looking motor!!!!

6.I took the wires coming into my EGR connector and traced them back thru the firewall to the Computer. Then I just hooked my sensor up to the connector inside the car where they connect to the computer. Then I zip tied it up over the passenger footwell behind the glove box and then I had many beers!!!!!!

Sorry but that is not an 87-88 Turbo EGR valve.

This is a TC set up and it only has a vacuum hose going to the valve diaphram, no electrical connector at that point:

This was for NA applications, just thought someone over here would like the info.
We have a very strict IM240 4 gas emisson check here in SE WI, and I can pretty much guarantee that a car without EGR will not pass the sniffer test, much less an underhood equipment check. EGR does not affect performance in any way, and will slightly improve gas mileage. I really dont understand why everyone wants to remove a system that doesnt affect performance, and will still produce cleaner emissions.
It's an Urban Legend everybody wants to believe, Jeff. Big Grin

After all, it's a "smog" system, it must degrade performance, right? Rolleyes

No emissions testing in my part of wisconsin, plus removing the EGR is less to fail and worry about. Fuel economy, i've forgotten what that is with this car.
on mine I dot tired of hooking it back up everytime I tore into the motor so I just took it off
I removed mine just because it's not needed, it's an eyesore and extra weight.As far as gas mileage I don't drive the car enough for it to matter. P.S. I have a classic tag so that gets me out of emission inspection.
i pass emissions with an egr not hooked up, when it is my readings drop about 400ppm on nox, its wonderful! its almost breathable then!
