Audra's car runs great but it is slow to accelerate and once it hits it moves faster then pre-hg. I think that means the cam is 1 tooth off, retarded? looking at the engine, which way do I turn the cam to go more advanced? Or do I have this backwards?

=I saved a life today, what did you do?= USCG
You turn it clockwise to advance it, counter clockwise to retard. At least that's what I do but I have an adjustable pulley.

Do you have an adjustable pulley? Have you checked the cam timing? See the diagram here: http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/CamTi...Timing.htm
Pete, the cam was definately at TDC when I put the newly rebuilt head on, but it took me a few tries (and a new tensioner) to get her timing correct. It's at 10* and runs really nice, it just lost all of it's low end. So I think I screwed up somewhere. Hers is the white/charcoal 88 all stock (except the Clarion CD/stereo/speakers, Walbro 155 pump, and bypassed BCS). Also, while we're discussing her car (since it never breaks and I don't get to drive it so it never gets talked about), how can I tell if her trans has been messed with/repaced. Her TC is an original A4LD car but the pan is blank and it has a HUGE tranny fluid cooler mounted in front of the rad/cond. It uses all hard lines and goes through the stock cooler on the side of the rad first. Also it shifts very crisp (not harsh) and hats lots of, eh, "chutzpah". Let me put it this way, she'll run the SHO at 10psi! I thought the autos were supposed to be slow?
Try 12* ignition timing if you got high test in her. That may help you low end and mid range,

I dn't know much about auto trannies but the cooler out front sounds like an after market add on
thats a factory cooler. ive removed may of them and used them for other cars, i plan on using the one in ym car as a power steering cooler(its just sittign there doign nothing)
but that all factory tubing and cooler, they made sure this tranny wouldnt over heat for a while

The transmission cooler that came out of my auto convert was the standerd old 1 1/2 foot by 3/4 foot or so stock type, with rubber motorcraft hoses, one from the radiator, other back to the transmission. HTH
What about the pan? I thought they were embossed "Ford Metric" or something like that. The only other auto TC I've ever been around is the race car and that tranny is on the floor under a pile of 3 disassembled TCs. And why is it so darn fast? And not breaking? (145K) I guess I shouldn't be upset, but I own 5 non-moving TCs and her 1 has only broken twice, both relatively easy and cheap to fix. Maybe I need to leave one stock... (Oh wait, hers isn't, stupid BCS)
