Where is everyone buying their heater cores at?

Ford wants $160 for one....

The one from AZ doesn't fit, the tubes are spaced too far apart and even if you bend it over, it still rubs the firewall. I can't imagine aluminum lasting long rubbing against steel.

The one from Advanced is a about an inch too short (see picture below).

In the picture is three heater cores. The center core is the factory core, the left core is the short core from Advanced, and the one on the right is from AZ and its tubes are too far apart to fit through the firewall hole.

I just use parts store ones, then in the inlet of it [well inside the inlet hose] I use a 1/4" drive 1/2" socket as a restrictor because I think they not only wear out from being cheap but if we are ever pressurizing the cooling system being a boosted car n such......???
Which parts stores? Which brand of heater core?

The one from Advanced was a Ready Air. I don't remember the AZ one.

NAPA looks promising...

The Ready Aire unit is the one on the left, in the picture. It is almost an inch too short, which means that, on one end, the core will be supported by the tubes instead of resting on the end tanks of the core! I can't imagine that lasting long at all.

When you bought yours do you remember if you placed the new core beside the factory core, to see if there was a difference? I am just curious if it has been a recent change in design or if I am just a little on the picky side.
Do you have manual or EATC climate control? The cores are different!

Really? I have never been asked whether or not I have EATC or manual before...... Why would Ford change the heater core for the EATC? So does that mean the heater box is also different?

I have two cars with the EATC but haven't been into the dash of either of them yet...
The heater box, at least the motor/blower area is laid out different between the two. The flow control doors are also activated differently (vacuum for manual, electric solenoid for EATC)

Amazing, learn something new everyday. I am definitely having a love/hate thing going for Ford right now! Big Grin lol

I put this photo together for future reference for myself and anyone else that it might help.
